TI-84 Plus CE Calculator Online

Use this free TI-84 Plus CE calculator online right in your browser. It has the same keys, menus and color screen as the handheld TI-84 Plus CE, so you can graph functions, find zeros and intersections, run statistics and work with fractions with no download or sign-up. Below you’ll find the exact keys to press for the tasks students ask about most.

What Is the TI-84 Plus CE?

The TI-84 Plus CE is a graphing calculator made by Texas Instruments and widely used in middle school, high school and college math and science classes. Compared with the older TI-84 Plus, it has a backlit color screen, a rechargeable battery and a slimmer body, while keeping the same keyboard and menu system. A later version, the TI-84 Plus CE Python, adds Python programming.

The calculator above is a TI-84 Plus CE emulator. You press its keys on screen just as you would on the handheld, so what you practice here carries over directly to your own calculator.

How to Use the TI-84 Plus CE Online

  1. Click or tap the keys on the calculator above. On a computer, use your mouse; on a phone or tablet, tap.
  2. Use the size bar to make the calculator bigger or smaller, or open it in full screen.
  3. Press 2ND to reach the blue functions printed above the keys, and ALPHA for the green letters.
  4. Press 2ND, MODE (QUIT) to leave any menu and return to the home screen.

For negative numbers, use the (-) key, not the minus key. Using minus at the start of an expression gives a syntax error.

Key How-Tos on the TI-84 Plus CE

How to graph a function

  1. Press Y= and type the function next to Y1=. Use X,T,θ,n for x. Example: X²-4.
  2. Press GRAPH.
  3. If you can’t see the curve, press ZOOM, 6 (ZStandard) for a -10 to 10 window, or set your own values in WINDOW.
  4. Press TRACE and use the left and right arrows to move along the curve.

For more graphing examples, see our graphing calculator online page.

How to find zeros (x-intercepts)

  1. Graph the function, then press 2ND, TRACE (CALC) and choose 2 (zero).
  2. Move the cursor to the left of the zero and press ENTER (Left Bound).
  3. Move to the right of the zero and press ENTER (Right Bound).
  4. Press ENTER again at Guess?. The x-value of the zero appears at the bottom of the screen.

For X²-4, this gives zeros at x = -2 and x = 2.

How to find the intersection of two graphs

  1. Enter one function in Y1 and the other in Y2, then press GRAPH.
  2. Press 2ND, TRACE and choose 5 (intersect).
  3. Press ENTER for the first curve, ENTER for the second curve.
  4. Move the cursor near the crossing point and press ENTER at Guess?.

How to find standard deviation and other statistics

  1. Press STAT, 1 (Edit) and type your data into L1, pressing ENTER after each value.
  2. Press STAT, arrow right to CALC, and choose 1 (1-Var Stats).
  3. Make sure List: is L1, then choose Calculate and press ENTER.

The results include the mean (x̄), the sample standard deviation (Sx), the population standard deviation (σx), the count (n), and, after scrolling down, the minimum, quartiles, median and maximum. For a linear regression, enter x-values in L1 and y-values in L2, then press STAT, CALC, 4 (LinReg(ax+b)).

How to work with fractions

  • To type a stacked fraction, press ALPHA, Y= to open the shortcut menu and choose n/d.
  • To turn a decimal answer into a fraction, press MATH, 1 (►Frac), then ENTER. For example, 0.75 ►Frac gives 3/4.

How to find a z-score and normal probabilities

The TI-84 has no single z-score key; compute it on the home screen as (x - μ) / σ. For example, a score of 85 with mean 70 and standard deviation 10 gives (85-70)/10 = 1.5. For probabilities, press 2ND, VARS (DISTR):

  • 2 normalcdf( gives the area between two values, for example normalcdf(-1E99, 1.5, 0, 1) for P(Z < 1.5).
  • 3 invNorm( gives the z-value for a given area to the left, for example invNorm(0.95, 0, 1).

Type E with 2ND, , (EE).

All three share the same core keyboard and menus, so most key sequences on this page also work on the older models. If your class uses the older calculator, try our TI-83 calculator online. Tips for Using the TI-84 Plus CE Calculator

  • Press 2ND, ENTER (ENTRY) to bring back your last calculation and edit it.
  • Press CLEAR to clear the home screen; it doesn’t erase your stored functions or lists.
  • If a graph looks wrong, check MODE for RADIAN or DEGREE before graphing trig functions.
  • Turn off functions you don’t need in Y= by highlighting the = sign and pressing ENTER.

FAQs

Yes. It runs in your browser with no download, sign-up or cost. Bookmark this page to come back to it.

It uses the same keyboard layout and menus, so the key sequences on this page work the same way on a handheld TI-84 Plus CE. Exams that allow the handheld do not allow web emulators, so practice here and use your own calculator in the test.

Press ALPHA, Y= to open the shortcut menu and choose n/d. To change a decimal answer into a fraction, press MATH, 1 (►Frac), ENTER.

Enter the data in L1 with STAT, 1, then press STAT, arrow to CALC, choose 1 (1-Var Stats) and press ENTER. Sx is the sample standard deviation and σx the population one.

The CE has a backlit color screen, a rechargeable battery and a thinner body. The original TI-84 Plus has a black-and-white screen and runs on AAA batteries. Most key sequences are the same on both.

Yes. It works in modern browsers on phones, tablets and computers. Use the size bar above the calculator to make it bigger or smaller.
